There are three gift types. The distribution mechanism and method vary by type.

Distributes one predetermined gift product. The distribution method can be set to "Follow store settings," "Auto-add," or "Manual add."

Customers can choose a gift from multiple options via a popup.

Choice gifts are never added to the cart automatically. The customer must always make a selection.
Distributes gifts repeatedly each time a condition threshold is reached, based on purchase quantity or amount. Use this for campaigns like "Get 1 gift for every 3 items purchased" or "Get 1 gift for every $100 spent."
The repeat criteria can be set to Item quantity or Subtotal price. The gift quantity in the cart automatically adjusts based on the repeat criteria and cart contents.
Repeatable gifts are always distributed automatically. The distribution method cannot be changed.
