RuffRuff Order Bonus

Distribute gifts after the order

Learn how to automatically add gifts to eligible orders from selected channels after the orders are created.

RuffRuff Order Bonus can automatically add gift component products to eligible orders. Choose the channels to include, such as the online store, draft orders, POS, and renewal orders from subscription apps.

This feature is for gifts you plan to distribute after an order is created. Its settings and eligible orders differ from automatic recovery, which adds gifts that were missed in the cart.

  • Plan: An active plan subscription is required to activate a campaign.

  • Eligible gifts: Simple gifts and repeatable gifts priced at 0 are supported. Choice gifts and gifts with a non-zero price are not supported.

  • Eligible orders: Orders must meet the campaign's active dates and eligibility conditions.

  • Fulfillment status: Gifts are not distributed if the entire order is already fulfilled. This includes POS orders completed in store where all items have been handed over.

  • Required setup: Enable post-order gift distribution and grant the required additional permissions.

  • App embed: The app embed is not required to add gifts after an order is created. Enable it if you want to display widgets or other campaign content on the online store.

Set the eligible channels under "Distribution method by channel" in the campaign. Choose draft orders, POS, and subscription apps from the available options. For other channels, enter a display name and identifier.

Channel

Setup and behavior

Online Store

Select "After the order (not added to cart; added after the order)" as the distribution method.

Draft Orders

After you add this channel, the app evaluates orders created from draft orders. Gifts are not distributed when you save a draft.

Point of Sale

For orders shipped later or picked up in store. Gifts are not distributed if the entire order is already fulfilled.

Subscription apps

Includes orders recorded as subscription orders across subscription apps.

Other channels

Select "Other channel", enter a display name and identifier, and add the channel.

  • Typical in-store sales: When customers take their purchases with them and POS is set to mark orders as fulfilled automatically, the entire order is fulfilled when it is created. Gifts cannot be added to these orders.

  • Orders for later shipping: Orders created as unfulfilled can receive gifts if they meet the campaign eligibility conditions.

Even if an order is created as unfulfilled, the gift cannot be added if the entire order becomes fulfilled before the gift is added.

For subscription orders, usually configure the channels as follows:

  • First order: Configure it under "Online Store".

  • Second and later orders (renewals): Configure them under "Subscription apps".

Note: The app uses the channel recorded on the order. If a first order is recorded as a subscription order, it falls under "Subscription apps".

Channels other than Draft Orders, Point of Sale, and Subscription apps are registered as "Other channel" with a display name and identifier. The identifier is the value in parentheses in "Display name (identifier)", shown in the "Post-order gift" block on the order page. The app matches channels by identifier, so matching the display name alone does not make an order eligible.

For how to check and register it, see "Check and register other channel identifiers".

Step 1 Enable post-order gift distribution

Enable post-order gift distribution in the app settings before configuring a campaign.

(1) Open the automation settings

In the app admin, go to Settings → Automation.

(2) Grant the required additional permissions

If "Additional permissions required" appears under "Post-order gifts", select "Grant permissions".

(3) Enable post-order distribution and save

Enable "Distribute gifts after the order", then select "Save".

Choose the eligible channels and distribution method for a simple gift or repeatable gift campaign.

(1) Open the gift campaign

In the app admin, open "Gifts" and select the campaign. To create a new one, select "Create campaign".

(2) Check the gift and eligibility conditions

Check the gift's component products, price, active dates, and eligibility conditions. Set the gift price to 0 for post-order distribution.

(3) Set the distribution method by channel

For Online Store, select "After the order (not added to cart; added after the order)". For other channels, open "Add channel" and use the appropriate option below.

  • Draft Orders, Point of Sale, or Subscription apps: Select the channel, then select "Add".

  • Other channels: Select "Other channel", enter a "Display name" and the verified "Identifier", then select "Add".

To exclude online store orders, select "Remove channel" on the Online Store row. If no channels are set, the campaign does not distribute gifts to any orders.

(4) Save and activate the campaign

Save your settings. If the campaign is a draft, select "Activate" and save.

Caution: With "After the order", the add-to-cart button is not shown. Campaign visibility still follows the display settings. To distribute gifts without informing customers in advance, hide the campaign in the display settings too.

  • Where gifts are added: Component products are added to the created order, not to the cart.

  • Timing: The app evaluates conditions after the order is created. The gift may not appear immediately.

  • Added products: Check the order's line items in the Shopify admin.

  • Processing details and channel: Check the "Post-order gift" block. You can also record the action you took.

Automatic processing runs even if the "Post-order gift" block has not been added.

The results distinguish between "Gift distributed after the order" and "Gift missing from the cart". Check the information for each status below.

Status

What to check

Added

Check the component products and quantities that were added.

Review required

Check the displayed reason and suggested action, such as insufficient inventory or an order that cannot be edited.

Gifts not distributed

Check why the post-order gift was not distributed, such as the entire order already being fulfilled.

  • Products and price: The gift's component products are added at a price of 0, rather than the gift bundle product.

  • Shipping: Shipping charges are not recalculated. Your store covers any additional shipping cost caused by adding the gift.

  • Customer notifications: This feature does not send customers an order-edit notification.

After an order is created, customer conditions are evaluated using the following information:

  • Customer tags and purchase history: The app uses the customer linked to the order. If no customer is linked, customer conditions such as tags and total order count are not met.

  • Total order count and total amount spent: The app uses the values before the current order was included.

  • Login status at purchase: This cannot be determined from the order data.

The "Customer login status" condition is unavailable with either of these Online Store settings:

  • The distribution method is "After the order".

  • Online Store is excluded from the campaign.

Check the settings and order in this order:

  • Is "Distribute gifts after the order" enabled in the app settings, and have you granted the additional permissions?

  • Is the campaign active, and is the order's channel included? For other channels, does the registered identifier match the value in the "Post-order gift" block?

  • Is the gift a simple or repeatable gift priced at 0, and does the order meet the campaign's active dates and conditions?

  • Is the entire order already fulfilled, or has the order been canceled or become uneditable?

  • Does the "Post-order gift" block show a reason for review or for not distributing the gift?

If "Post-order gift distribution is disabled" appears, select "Open automation settings" and enable distribution in the app settings. Gifts will not be distributed while it remains disabled.
